New SBG Paper Goods Postcards & Bookmarks
The SBG Book Club received a grant in the Fall of 2020 from Mecklenburg county’s Arts & Science Council to run a teen reading series targeted at high school students in underserved school districts.
The Teen Syllabus is a compilation of four syllabi that have been formatted for a high school audience, including author/book history, motifs, glossary, game activity, important quotes and discussion questions. This syllabus can be used as a workbook and to facilitate solo or group reading.
The Teen Syllabus covers:
- Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler
- Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi
- Sula by Toni Morrison
- Women of Brewster Place by Gloria Naylor
April 2021 Syllabi
Our syllabi work as a reading guide to our monthly readings by providing historiographical components that allow the public to participate in the type of dialogical reading typically confined within the gates of elite institutions.
Use the syllabi to dive in deeper to our readings and to spark discussions within your personal communities. They can be used in the classroom or at brunch. We break the readings down and make them enjoyably and insightful.
Join us for an Scholar Chat with Dr. Norell Edwards as we discuss Toni Morrison’s Beloved and Hortense Spillers’ Mama’s Baby, Papa’s Maybe.
April 14th at 6pm EST
Dig deeper & enhance your readings...for

Curate your own reading circles with our syllabi!
