July Announcements

We are transitioning through quite a few books this month, as we give everyone space and time to finish their readings. The pandemic has impacted the supply chain for books in a myriad of ways so as we discussed in our June announcements we understand that everyone accesses reading differently.

We are wrapping our reading selection from Black Feminist Thought and are delighted to announce that we have the privilege of interviewing Dr. Patricia Hill Collins for our next author chat! This will be our first Complex Theory Author Chat and to encourage everyone to join in all syllabi for Black Feminist Thought is $4.99 this month. If you read nothing else, grab the PDF here for free and scroll to page 290 to read Chapter 12! It’s significantly important to our modern times. As always we need your help to make this is a worthwhile experience, so please submit your questions for any aspect of Dr. Collins work here by July 17th!

The Women of Brewster Place was our June read that we will be finishing up this coming week. With a brilliantly done syllabus drafted by Bry Reed, we hope that our community has enjoyed the thoughtful engagement around Gloria Naylor’s classic work.

Such A Fun Age by Kiley Reid is our July read and we highly recommend you pick up the audio version. It’s white woman drama to a tee and Nicole Lewis who narrates the book adds so much flair and life to the reading. It’s an absolutely enjoyable listen! If you are a first time Audible user, you can sign up with Jouelzy’s link and get your first month’s credits *free*! To encourage our audience to read with the young adults in their lives, the syllabus for Such A Fun Age is on sale for $4.99 this month!
